Across the Pond

Grace Carter (fiddle, vocals) picked up a fiddle about 6 years ago and has been tormenting the Denver area Irish session scene ever since. She grew up playing classical piano but listening to Patsy Cline, Sons of the Pioneers, and Marty Robbins. Her musical influences include Adam Agee, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Natalie MacMaster, Tommy Peoples, Andre Brunet, and Xavier Rudd.

Phil Coombs (melodeon, guitar, percussion, vocals) first got involved in the folk scene attending the famous Black Bull folk club in N London. At university, he danced and played with the Cardiff Morris Men. He also toured Galway, Ireland with the Hammersmith Morris Men from London. In later years, he performed with the Kennet Morris Men in Reading, U.K. before emigrating to the U.S. in 1990. He regularly plays at the various Irish music sessions in Denver. Phil's musical influences include Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, John Kirkpatrick, Planxty, The Chieftains.

Brint Lukens (guitar, vocals) is a Denver native, with Irish and Scots-Irish roots. He grew up listening to Irish music and started guitar in his teens, moving on to flamenco music in his twenties. He has been performing Irish session music for the past 3 years, and flamenco for the past 10 years. His interest in music is focused on folk traditions from Ireland, Scotland and Spain.

Do’Herty, da Dachs O’hund (mascot, therapist) does not like the fiddle and is ambivalent towards the melodeon. She is far more interested in belly rubs and ear scratches than folk music but tolerates it in exchange for cheese. She has no musical interest and would very much prefer these weirdoes leave her living room and give her some peace and quiet.
